The AS-1090 pre-amplifier is designed explicitly for Virtual Radar receivers SBS-3 and Radarbox, significantly extending the reception range of the SBS-3. It is compatible with passive antennas like the GP-1090 or a discone antenna. Mounting the antenna pre-amp close to the antenna is crucial for optimal performance. Placing it at the end of a long cable can lead to signal degradation due to increased noise, affecting the signal-to-noise ratio and decoding efficiency.

Key technical specifications of the AS-1090 include a frequency range of 1030 - 1090 MHz, a gain of 12dB, a low noise figure of 0.9dB, and a supply voltage of 12VDC over coax (remote). The pre-amplifier has a power consumption of 100mA, a maximum input level of +2dBm, and features 2x N female connectors. It comes in a weatherproof case suitable for mast mounting, with 74 x 93 x 45 mm dimensions. The AS-1090 package includes all necessary mounting hardware for easy installation on a mast but does not include a Bias-T (DC injector).
