The Curtis 8045ABM keyer chip is a significant upgrade from its predecessor, offering enhanced features without additional cost. Some notable features include an 89-character built-in memory, expandable non-volatile memory, and a true sine wave sidetone with smooth rise/fall times for a pleasant sound experience. Users can enjoy type A or B iambic keying, dot-dash memory, adjustable weight, tone, speed, and automatic or semi-auto mode, all packed into a 28-pin package.

Regarding specifications, the Curtis 8045ABM operates within a supply voltage range of 4 Vdc minimum to 6 Vdc maximum (5 Vdc recommended). The operating current varies depending on the sidetone and keying arrangement. Users can expect a speed range of approximately 5 to 65 words per minute, with the option for A or B iambic operation in automatic or semi-automatic mode. Weight control allows for adjustments, and the standard dot-dash-space ratio is set at 1:3:1.

Furthermore, the keyer chip features an internal sidetone generator utilizing an external low-pass filter, producing tones ranging from 300 to 1200 Hz. It comes with a built-in 85-character volatile message memory or the option for a more significant 507-character external non-volatile memory. Key debouncing is managed through internal logic, and the chip is housed in a 28-pin SDIP package, with a SOIC package also available for versatility.
