The FT-2980R is now equipped with 80 Watts of high power output, eliminating the need for a cooling fan. It features a large, easy-to-read display and WIRES™ Internet Linking Access capability for enhanced functionality.

The FT-2980R is built with CTCSS and DCS Encode/Decode capabilities for seamless repeater access and silent monitoring. Users can store CTCSS and DCS configuration data independently in each memory channel, with a "Split Tone" mode for systems using CTCSS and DCS separately.

The FT-2980R ensures convenient operation with an extensive memory system offering 221 channels, including regular memories, band-limit memories, and a dedicated "Home" channel. Memory channels can display personalized Alphabetic labels for easy recognition.

Additionally, the FT-2980R includes a WIRES Internet Linking Access feature for global communication, a 10-channel Weather Band memory bank for quick access to NOAA broadcasts, and exceptional receiver performance with Yaesu's Advanced Track Tuning RF input filtering.
