The Heil Pro 7 aviation-style headset is designed for amateur radio use in high-noise environments. It features specially designed foam-gel ear pads that provide 26 dB outside noise reduction and exceptional comfort. The headset is a true dual-channel, stereo headset with an audio balance control to adjust the level of the left earphone to match the right. A phase-reversal switch helps in isolating weak signals, and the latest version includes a monitor jack for a second operator to plug in headphones. The flexible gooseneck mic boom can be rotated for use on either ear, and two production versions are available with dynamic or electret microphone elements that are easily interchangeable.

The Pro 7 Dynamic version is equipped with a low distortion dynamic HC-7 microphone element, ideal for use with most radio rigs such as Kenwood and Yaesu. It has a frequency response of 100 Hz – 12 kHz with balanced highs and lows, centred at 2KHz - 4KHz. The impedance is 600 ohms, and for vintage radios requiring high-impedance input, an XT-1 impedance-matching transformer is necessary. On the other hand, the Pro 7 iC version comes with the Heil iC electret microphone element designed for ICOM radios. The iC element utilizes bias power in ICOM radios to address low-gain issues, with fixed -3dB points at 80 Hz and 12.5 kHz, requiring +5 volts DC bias power provided by ICOM rigs.

In terms of specifications, the Dynamic version offers a frequency response of 100 Hz – 12 kHz, a cardioid polar pattern, 600 Ohms impedance, and an output level of -57 dB at 1 kHz. The iC Electret version, on the other hand, has a frequency response of 35 Hz – 12 kHz, a cardioid polar pattern, 1.5 k ohms impedance, and an output level of -48dB at 1 kHz.
