The Icom 7300 is a base station with a 4.3-inch touchscreen colour TFT LCD screen and a high-performance real-time band scope. It uses an RF Direct Sampling System, a technology usually found in Software Defined Radios, which allows for a compact body and high-performance spectrum scope. It also includes a built-in integrated wide-frequency Automatic Antenna Tuner, making it ideal for field operation. The radio provides 100 watts of output power on HF/50MHz bands and 50 watts on 70MHz (European versions only).

The IC-7300 is an industry-first entry-level HF radio that uses an RF Direct Sampling System. This technology digitizes RF signals before various receiver stages, reducing noise and improving performance. It has an output power of 100W (25W AM) and a receiver type of Direct Sampling, an RF direct sampling system. The IC-7300 employs an RF direct sampling system, where RF signals are directly converted to digital data and processed in the FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array), simplifying circuit construction and reducing noise.

The IC-7300 features the "IP+" technology, which improves the 3rd-order intercept point (IP3) performance, allowing for better reception of weak signals adjacent to strong interfering signals. It also has a Receiver Dynamic Range (RMDR) of approximately 97dB, improving Phase Noise characteristics by about 15dB at a frequency separation of 1 kHz. The real-time spectrum scope of the IC-7300 allows for simultaneous audio listening and signal sweeping, eliminating the need to choose between the two. It has a sweep speed of up to 30 frames per second and offers selectable span widths ranging from 5kHz to 1000kHz, utilizing FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) technology for efficient signal analysis.
