The MFJ-1664 manually tuned screwdriver antenna is designed for continuous operation from 6-80 meters using a supplied whip 10 feet long. For mobile or limited-space operation from 6-40 meters, a 4 ½ foot whip is provided. Tuning the antenna involves loosening a thumbscrew and adjusting the aluminium cover along the loading coil, which is constructed of tin-plated copper wire wound onto a PVC pipe core with a Copper Beryllium finger-stock connecting the cover to the coil.

When used with a tripod and ground radial system, the MFJ-1664 becomes an efficient portable antenna. Mounting the antenna onto a tripod, like the MFJ1918, is simple with the MFJ-342 3/8 pipe mount. Proper connection to a ground radial system is essential for optimal performance.

For a portable setup, follow these steps: unpack the antenna, attach the whip securely, mount the antenna onto a tripod using the MFJ-342, and connect the ground radial system. For a mobile setup, permanently attach your lock washers, attach the whip securely, mount the antenna, and connect a vehicle's feed line shield to prevent RF burns and injuries.
