What can I do with this radio?
This handy two way amateur radio is great for VHF or UHF bands. The radio comes with full duplex so it can receive and transmit at the same time. If you have different transmissions coming in on VHF and UHF you can use the CT890 as a repeater, transferring the UHF remissions to the VHF frequency and the other way round. Store up to 999 of your favourite stations.
How do I find stations?
Scan frequencies to find what you’re looking for with three different scan types. Time operated scan searches channels and pauses for 5 seconds when it detects a signal before starting to scan again. Carrier operated scan searches until it finds a signal and stops on that channel while the signal is active then moves on. Search scan searches for a signal and stops on a channel when it finds one.
How do I use the radio?
The colour LCD display lets you clearly see everything you need to know. It comes with two modes - VFO (frequency mode) and MR (channel mode) - and an optional backlight. The radio displays two frequencies – the master frequency is for transmission but the secondary frequency can only be used to receive. Know exactly when a message starts and ends with roger bleeps when you press the PTT button. Can receive and transmit on the 70cm band (430-440 MHz) and the 2m (144-146 MHz) amateur band which both require a licence.
What features does this radio have?
Go hands-free with voice activated transmissions (VOX) where you simply speak into the microphone to transmit. Receive a clear signal with 10 squelch modes and use DCS and CTCSS combinations to create more private groups and conversations. You can listen and speak in privacy with the two pin Kenwood speaker and microphone connection so you can use a compatible headset (not included)
What else can it do?
Listen to your favourite FM station and when you’ve got something to say the radio will automatically transmit on the current frequency as soon as you press to talk. In an emergency the radio can transmit a SOS every five minutes for 10 seconds and comes with a built-in torch to light your way.
How is the radio powered?
When your battery gets low just pop the unit in the charger and charge it up. When the light goes green you’re ready to go again. Maximise your battery life with the battery save mode. You can cap your transmissions between 15 and 900 seconds with the time out timer (TOT) so the radio will warn you then go back into receiver mode.
