The device supports dual receive functionality, allowing operators to monitor two frequencies simultaneously. Additionally, users can customize their experience with variable IF slope and bandwidth settings, ensuring clarity and precision in signal reception. The interactive menu system enhances usability, making navigating through the multitude of features and settings easier.

The transceiver also includes 100 memory channels for storing frequently used frequencies and settings and a high-speed computer control interface for advanced operation. For Morse code enthusiasts, the built-in K1 Logikey electronic keyer provides a reliable solution for CW transmission. Weighing in at 11.5 kg and powered by a 13.8V DC supply, the Kenwood TS-870S combines portability with high-performance capabilities, making it a valuable tool for casual and serious ham radio operators.
