The Yaesu MTU‑160 RF µ‑Tuning Unit is a high‑performance preselector module engineered specifically for the 160‑metre amateur band. It forms part of Yaesu’s advanced µ‑Tuning system, designed to dramatically reduce noise, intermodulation, and out‑of‑band interference—allowing weak signals on Top Band to be heard with far greater clarity.

At the heart of the MTU‑160 is a large 28 mm Ni‑Zn ferrite core driven by a precision stepper motor. This design achieves a very high Q factor, producing a sharp resonance peak centred on the operating frequency. The result is improved dynamic range and a measurable increase in the 3rd‑order Intercept Point (IP3), helping the receiver handle strong adjacent signals without overload.

The µ‑Tuning system can be used externally via the optional base kit or mounted internally on compatible radios. When enabled, the unit automatically re‑centres itself after frequency changes, ensuring optimal filtering at all times.

Compatible with Yaesu FT‑2000, FTDX5000, FTDX9000, and FT‑950 series transceivers.
