The Yaesu MTU‑80/40 RF µ‑Tuning Unit B is designed to suppress noise and intermodulation effects on the 80 m and 40 m amateur bands, improving reception of weak signals. It’s part of a modular µ‑Tuning system (MTU‑160, MTU‑80/40, MTU‑30/20) that connects externally without internal modification.

Using large 28 mm Ni‑Zn ferrite cores driven by a precision stepper motor, the unit achieves a high Q factor over 300, delivering sharp resonance near the operating frequency. This boosts the 3rd‑order Intercept Point (IP3) by 4 dB, enhancing dynamic range and selectivity. The synchro belt drive system is rated for over 10,000 hours of operation.

Compatible with Yaesu FT‑2000, FTDX5000, FTDX9000, and FT‑950 series transceivers. Requires external µ‑Tuning base kit unless internally mounted (FTDX9000 only). The system auto‑re‑centres when re‑engaged after frequency changes.
