The MFJ-297 Desk Microphone is a professional-grade microphone designed for ham radio communications. It has a unique frequency-tailored microphone that enhances speech intelligibility by emphasizing essential frequencies. This allows your voice to cut through noise and QRM with exceptional clarity. 

The microphone offers the option to select SSB mode for smooth and articulate audio, perfect for powerful DX punch. Alternatively, you can choose the full-range broadcast quality mode for crystal precise FM/AM operation. 

One of the standout features of the MFJ-297 is the Silibant Sound Shield(TM), which enables close talking to minimize background noise without introducing distracting silibant hiss. This feature is especially effective during field day, group contesting, or when dealing with amplifier fan or room noise. 

The microphone boasts a susceptible, premium-grade condenser microphone element and a low-noise amplifier with frequency tailoring and level control. This ensures ample output for any transceiver or transmitter. 

For added convenience, the MFJ-297 features a flexible microphone boom that allows you to position the microphone at an optimum distance for comfortable operation without fatigue. It also includes a SoftTouch(TM) Momentary and Locking PTT Switch, ideal for fast contesting or long-winded QSOs. 

The microphone has frequency up and down switches, enabling the simple one-finger operation to instantly tune your rig and operate PTT from the microphone. Please note that this feature requires a compatible transceiver. 

When transmitting, an On-Air LED indicator lights up and flashes when receiving. 

Optional cables accommodate different transceivers, allowing you to keep your microphone even when you trade your rig or use multiple flexible booms. The microphone weighs 1 lb and can be powered by 2 "AA" batteries or a 13.8V DC external power source (1.5mA Rx, 2.5mA Tx). It features an electret condenser mic with a 500 - 50k Ohm match.

The MFJ-297 Desktop "Optional cables" are required for the microphone. For compatibility with various transceivers. The microphone output connector selector switch positions are as follows: for the MFJ-5397I ICOM transceiver, it is set to A with an 8-pin Round connector; for the MFJ-5397K Kenwood transceiver, it is set to B with an 8-pin Round connector; for the MFJ-5397Y Yaesu transceiver, it is set to B with an 8-Pin Round connector; for the MFJ-5397MX ICOM transceiver, it is set to A with an 8-Pin Modular connector; for the MFJ-5397MX Kenwood transceiver, it is set to B with an 8-Pin Modular connector; for the MFJ-5397MY Yaesu transceiver, it is set to B with an 8-Pin Modular connector. The MFJ-5399 cable is compatible with MFJ transceivers and uses connector type A.
