For many years, the 2-meter mobile antenna (Model 2M-4) has been highly praised by amateur radio operators for its exceptional performance. C&K Communications in Nokomis, Illinois, took their admiration a step further by creating a base antenna using the mobile whip as its radiating element. Surprisingly, the base antenna outperformed the mobile antenna, leading to a request for a commercial version, which we gladly developed.

The base antenna features a 6 dBi 5/8 wave design with a 9.5 mm solid fibreglass core wound with 19ga heavy insulated copper wire. Measuring approximately 114 cm, the radiating element is covered in white, UV-stabilized PVC shrink tubing. The antenna base threads are 3/8-24, ensuring compatibility with various setups.

Central to the base antenna assembly is a combination angle bracket, U-bolt, hub plate, and antenna stud. It can be mounted on masts up to 38 mm in diameter and comes with four structural aluminium radials pre-drilled to mount to the hub plate. The antenna stud features a standard SO-239 base for easy connection to any UHF (PL-259) terminated coaxial cable, with an in-line AR-10 arrestor connector for static and electrical discharge concerns.
