Firestik KW series, a 62 cm (2 feet) 5/8 wave antenna, is a top-loaded antenna compatible with all CB radios. It covers AM, FM, and SSB Citizen Band Radio frequencies, boasting an average tuned SWR of 1.5 to 1. Designed for single or dual installations, it can be used with 550 cm (18 feet) or Fire-Flex Coax, featuring a 3/8 inch x 24 heavy-duty threaded base. It fits all Firestik mounts and accessories, with a cover that reduces static noise by up to 50%.

The Firestik KW series, originating in 1975, predates tunable tip models. Despite expectations of obsolescence, its popularity endures. Sales of the Firestik KW series versus the FS series remain evenly split even after many decades.

To tune the trim-to-tune models, follow these steps: remove the cap, make vertical slits into the tubing at the top of the stick, peel back the tubing to expose the wire coil, trim the wire, push it back into place, replace the cap, measure the SWR, and repeat the process until the antenna is tuned correctly.

Factory advice emphasizes that these antennas are ground-plane dependent, necessitating a metallic counterpoise for optimal performance. They are unsuitable for non-metallic vehicles and must be tested and tuned with a transmitter to avoid damaging the circuitry. Additionally, ground-plane-dependent antennas require mounting brackets and antenna stud mounts grounded to a chassis ground point. Insulating coatings like powder coating or paint must be removed for adequate grounding.
